$950 Billion! Korean and US Tech Giants Create the Largest Collaboration in Chip History
On the 24th local time, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung held the "San Francisco Artificial Intelligence Summit" in San Francisco, USA.
Attendees included Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, Naver founder Lee Hae-jin; Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, among others.
At the summit, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung released the "San Francisco Artificial Intelligence Declaration."
The declaration outlined plans to leverage South Korea's world-leading storage semiconductor capabilities to establish South Korea as a core global hub for the artificial intelligence supply chain.
Kim Yong-bum, Director of Policy at the Office of the President of South Korea, stated that South Korean conglomerates have reached agreements with global technology giants including Nvidia to launch a series of cooperative projects valued at a total of $950 billion.
During the summit, South Korean companies and global technology giants signed multiple cooperation agreements.
Samsung Electronics will cooperate with Broadcom on wafer foundry operations, supplying advanced storage semiconductors and manufacturing artificial intelligence chips from this year through 2030, with a total agreement value of $200 billion.
Additionally, Samsung SDS will partner with Anthropic to explore new artificial intelligence markets and jointly cultivate engineers specialized in artificial intelligence applications.
SK hynix and SK Telecom have reached a $500 billion cooperation project with Nvidia to advance the construction and expansion of artificial intelligence data centers with a total capacity of up to 2 gigawatts, ensuring priority access to the latest generation of Vera Rubin graphics processors and supplying advanced storage semiconductors.
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won also revealed that artificial intelligence company Anthropic PBC has submitted a procurement request to SK hynix for self-developed proprietary semiconductor chips.
In addition, Hyundai Motor Group announced its vision for the development of "Physical Artificial Intelligence," partnering with Nvidia to co-build a "robot reference platform" to support robotics research and development by universities and startups; it will also collaborate with Waymo to create an autonomous driving ecosystem. Hyundai Motor Group will also establish a domestic physical artificial intelligence industry base, including investments in projects such as the Saemangeum Artificial Intelligence Industry Park.
South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, Byun Kyeong-hoon, stated: "With leading global technology companies gathering together with Korean enterprises to discuss pragmatic and specific cooperative plans, it further demonstrates South Korea's core position in the global artificial intelligence supply chain. We will focus policy support on making South Korea an indispensable global production base and core platform for artificial intelligence cooperation."
