According to The New York Times, Paramount (PSKY.US) said on Friday local time that the company has agreed to extend the deadline to pause its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD.US) until June next year at the latest, in order to wait for a judge to consider lawsuits filed by attorneys general from several US states aiming to block the deal. The two parties stated in legal documents that they have reached an agreement to freeze this $111 billion merger, extending the shorter pause order previously issued this week by a federal judge in California. The merger would bring together two major film studios, streaming services HBO Max and Paramount+, as well as networks such as CBS and CNN under the same ownership. Paramount head David Ellison has been actively pursuing the acquisition of Warner Bros., ultimately beating Netflix after multiple rounds of increased offers.
