INVESTORS SIT TIGHT AS MAG SEVEN EARNINGS BEGIN

U.S. stocks wrapped up Tuesday's session with only modest moves as investors largely stayed on the sidelines ahead of the first big-ticket earnings reports from the tech giants that have powered much of the market's AI-fueled rally.

All eyes are on Alphabet GOOGL.O and Tesla TSLA.O, the first members of the "Magnificent Seven" MAGS.K to report quarterly results, with both set to release earnings after the closing bell. Their results and commentary could help determine whether enthusiasm for AI and megacap tech can continue to underpin the broader market.

Energy markets remained firmly on investors' radar. Oil prices CLc1 hovered near six-week highs as investors weighed growing supply risks tied to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Concerns over shipping disruptions in the Red Sea, where Iran-backed Houthi militants have continued to threaten commercial vessels, added further support to crude prices.

The S&P 500 .SPX finished little changed, down 0.14%, even as a majority of its sectors ended higher. Communication Services .SPLRCL, off more than 1%, was the weakest group. Utilities .SPLRCU, climbing more than 2%, led the advancers.

Beneath the headline indexes, gold and silver miners .XAU were among the stronger-performing groups. Software & Services names .SPLRCIS, meanwhile, slid more than 2%.

Bond yields remained a key focus for investors. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield US10YT=RR touched 4.6646%, its highest level since May 20. A move above 4.6870% would put it at its highest level since January 2025, potentially creating a bigger headwind for equities as investors grapple with higher borrowing costs and tighter financial conditions.

With stocks still settling, here is a snapshot of where markets stood moments after 4 p.m. ET.
