Glonghui July 22 | According to the Wall Street Journal, senior executives at the social platform Reddit are considering terminating Google, under Alphabet, from accessing its platform. The two parties are currently negotiating the renewal of the existing data licensing agreement. In 2024, Reddit and Google signed an agreement estimated to be worth $60 million annually, allowing Google to crawl its forum content to drive AI development. Now, Reddit is reconsidering the agreement, with the core issue being the erosion of web traffic. Google's AI-generated summary box can now directly answer user questions on the search results page, so users no longer need to click through to Reddit or other external forums.
