South Korea's per capita household net worth is expected to increase by over 9% by 2025, with the primary drivers being the rise in securities and property prices.
BlockBeats News, July 22nd - Data released by the Bank of Korea on Wednesday showed that by 2025, South Korea's per capita household net worth reached 274.7 million Korean won (approximately $185,600), a year-on-year increase of over 9% driven by rising real estate and securities prices. This growth rate marks a significant improvement from 3% in 2024.
In 2025, the South Korean stock market had the most outstanding performance in the Asian markets, with the Seoul Composite Index (KOSPI) skyrocketing by almost 76% throughout the year, marking the largest increase since 1999. This surge far surpassed the S&P 500 Index with an approximately 17% increase and the MSCI Asia Pacific Index with an approximately 25% year-to-date increase.
The key driver behind this historic rally was the cyclical recovery of the global semiconductor industry. The performance and stock prices of semiconductor giants such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which are pillars of the South Korean economy, significantly influenced the overall market. The Chief Strategist for the Asia Pacific region at Goldman Sachs previously pointed out that the depletion of semiconductor inventories, coupled with a new demand cycle driven by artificial intelligence, brought strong earnings recovery expectations for South Korean tech stocks, serving as the core engine driving the KOSPI index higher.
