(1) Approximately 90% of primary energy consumption in Asia still comes from oil, natural gas, and coal, and demand continues to grow. The lack of major new resource discoveries has deepened countries' dependence on imported fossil fuels. (2) Vandana Hari, founder of Singapore-based energy consultancy Vanda Insights, stated that this import reliance will keep Asia exposed to global energy supply fluctuations and geopolitical risks over the long term, and she believes the current period of geopolitical turbulence will last for decades, or at least several years. (3) A "New Energy Outlook" report pointed out that Asian economies will reap the greatest benefits from energy transition; taking Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, and India as examples, their energy import costs as a percentage of GDP in 2025 range between 3% and 6%.
