(1) On Monday, after Andy Burnham took office as UK Prime Minister, former Defence Secretary John Healey was unexpectedly appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Previously, it was widely anticipated that this position would be taken over by Shabana Mahmood (she will remain as Home Secretary). (2) Deutsche Bank analysts pointed out that Healey was considered one of the more market-friendly candidates for the Chancellor role in a recent Bloomberg survey, even though the public has limited knowledge of his fiscal stance. In his speech on Monday, Burnham stated that specific policy measures and corresponding financing plans will be announced on Tuesday. The market reaction was moderately positive, with the pound rising 0.16% against the US dollar to $1.3451.
