ENS DAO approves establishment of new Security Council; the 5-of-8 multisig mechanism is authorized to veto malicious proposals
ChainCatcher news: According to official sources, the ENS DAO has approved a proposal to activate a new Security Council with a two-year term. The council consists of eight members and has veto power, allowing it to cancel proposals during the waiting period after a malicious proposal is passed but before it is executed. The council's authority is limited to canceling transactions in the timelock; it cannot use treasury funds, submit proposals, or rewrite approved proposals.
The council can exercise its power only under emergency conditions as specified by its charter. ENS pointed out that governance itself could be an attack vector—for example, voting rights can be borrowed to initiate attacks, proposal code can hide malicious behavior, and credential leaks can be used to push harmful transactions. The new council adopts a 5-of-8 multisig model, requiring the approval of at least five members to cancel a proposal. After two years, DAO voting will be needed to extend its term.
