The AI Super Cycle Drives a Computing Power Shortage, with Render and Bittensor Emerging as Key Beneficiaries

BlockBeats News, May 30th, as the demand for artificial intelligence model training and inference continues to surge, the global high-performance GPU supply remains tight, and NVIDIA's high-end chip delivery lead time has extended to several weeks. Market analysis believes that cryptocurrency projects that can integrate idle computing power and provide decentralized GPU services are expected to be the main beneficiaries during the AI computing power expansion cycle. The current most prominent cryptocurrency projects include:

· Render (RENDER): Initially focused on rendering computation, it has now expanded into the AI inference field, linking computing power demand to token value through a Burn-and-Mint mechanism.

· Akash Network (AKT): A decentralized cloud computing platform, with first-quarter 2026 computing power spending hitting a new high of $5 million, providing low-cost GPU rental services for AI enterprises.

· io.net (IO): Aggregating tens of thousands of GPUs worldwide, claiming to reduce AI computing costs by up to 70%, it has become a crucial infrastructure project in the DePIN AI track.

· Bittensor (TAO): Incentivizing model, data, and computing power contributors through an "intelligent proof" mechanism to build a decentralized AI network.

Analysis believes that as the demand for AI Agents, autonomous agents, and inference continues to grow rapidly, decentralized computing power networks are expected to take on some of the demand that traditional cloud providers struggle to meet. Compared to centralized services like AWS and Azure, these platforms typically offer a cost advantage of 50% to 90%, and attract global idle GPU resources to the network through token incentives.

Harvard University Investment Management Company disclosed that it holds $2.2 billion worth of SpaceX shares, making it the largest single stock position in its $4.3 billion US equity portfolio. This holding originated from Harvard’s early investment in SpaceX through venture capital funds, and the position has significantly appreciated after SpaceX’s public listing in June this year. The University of California also disclosed a roughly $1 billion position in SpaceX during the same period. Over the past decade, endowment funds from several universities have made substantial bets on private tech assets.
