Analysis: OpenAI wins $150 billion lawsuit against Elon Musk, but still faces competitive and regulatory pressure before IPO
BlockBeats news, on May 19, a US jury dismissed Musk's $150 billion lawsuit against OpenAI. The jury reached a verdict in less than two hours, determining that the lawsuit was time-barred, and the judge subsequently officially dismissed the case. This victory is seen as one of the key obstacles for OpenAI in advancing its IPO. According to reports, OpenAI may initiate its listing as early as this year, and the company is currently valued at $730 billion.
However, OpenAI still faces multiple challenges, including fierce competition from AI giants such as Anthropic and Google, as well as significant risks related to copyright infringement, fatal errors, and other lawsuits. The Musk camp has also indicated they will continue to appeal.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2024, with Musk accusing OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and others of violating OpenAI's founding principles and prioritizing commercial interests over public welfare. Musk co-founded OpenAI with others in 2015, but left the company later due to a power struggle.
