Hundreds of long-dormant Ethereum addresses have been hacked for unknown reasons
BlockBeats reported on May 1st, according to crypto analyst Wazz, since yesterday, hundreds of wallets (many of which had been dormant for over 7 years) on the ETH mainnet were emptied by the same address. Aragon team member @TheTakenUser also posted confirming that funds in their own wallet were transferred for unknown reasons.
The cause of this incident is still unclear. Community analysis suggests it may be due to old mnemonic phrases, private key or LastPass storage leaks, or previous risky authorizations from 2017 to 2020, rather than a new smart contract vulnerability.
