France’s April inflation exceeds expectations, rising above the European Central Bank’s target

Golden Ten Data reported on April 30 that preliminary data released by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) on Thursday showed that France's consumer price increase in April exceeded expectations. Driven by rising energy prices, especially oil prices, France's harmonized inflation rate (used for comparison with other Eurozone countries) rose by 2.5% year-on-year in April, while the market median expectation was 2.3%. If the preliminary data is confirmed, this will be the first time since August 2024 that France has exceeded the European Central Bank's 2% inflation target.
