ECB's Demarco: Appears to be heading in the direction of a negative outcome
ECB to Assess Inflation Impact in June
Alexander Demarco, a member of the European Central Bank's Governing Council and the leader of Malta's Central Bank, believes that June is a more suitable time for the ECB to evaluate whether the energy crisis caused by the war is affecting overall inflation. In a conversation with Econostream during the IMF Spring meetings, Demarco explained that the April 30 policy session would not provide much new insight apart from the ECB's corporate phone survey. He emphasized that by June, the ECB will have updated forecasts and additional inflation figures, making it a more informed period for assessment.
According to Demarco, April will only offer data up to March, limiting the ECB's ability to make a comprehensive judgment.
