Golden Ten Data reported on April 16 that Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) is making significant purchases of European government bonds after a wave of sell-offs triggered by the Middle East conflict caused bond prices to drop sharply. According to Andrew Balls, Chief Investment Officer of Global Fixed Income at PIMCO, the company previously had a lower allocation in the region's debt, but shifted to increase holdings after the conflict. The firm has added related investments to its global bond fund. Balls stated, "There are a large number of crowded trading positions in the market, which likely led to the repricing." He particularly emphasized the substantial volatility in UK and European short-term bond prices, fluctuations in European interest rates, and changes in the euro interest rate swap curve.
