Silver Prices Edge Higher Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty

On Wednesday, silver (XAG/USD) maintains a modest upward trend, though its gains remain limited as investors keep a close watch on ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. At present, XAG/USD is valued near $80, hovering close to its highest level in a month.

In parallel, the US Dollar Index (DXY)—which measures the dollar’s strength against a group of six major currencies—stands at approximately 98.10, lingering near the six-week low it touched on Tuesday.

Silver has now advanced for eight consecutive sessions, buoyed by a broadly weaker US Dollar as optimism grows over potential diplomatic progress between the United States and Iran. Despite this positive backdrop, the absence of robust buying interest suggests that many traders are waiting for more definitive signs of easing tensions before making further moves.

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is widely anticipated to maintain current interest rates for the time being, as officials evaluate the economic fallout from the conflict—especially the inflationary pressures stemming from oil prices. These factors continue to limit the upside for non-yielding assets like silver. Although oil prices have retreated from recent peaks, fueling speculation that the Fed could resume rate cuts later this year, the lack of a sustained drop in energy costs leaves the market outlook uncertain.

Technical Analysis: Uptrend Faces Key Resistance

Examining the 4-hour chart, XAG/USD continues to move within an ascending parallel channel, characterized by a pattern of higher highs and higher lows since reaching a low near $61 in March. The price has also reclaimed positions above both the 100- and 200-period Simple Moving Averages (SMAs), reinforcing a short-term bullish outlook.

Currently, silver is testing the upper edge of this channel. A decisive breakout and sustained move above this level could pave the way for additional gains, with the next significant resistance around $85. Conversely, if the price fails to remain above the 200-period SMA near $77, it may retreat toward the 100-period SMA at approximately $73.

Momentum indicators show the Relative Strength Index (14) at 68.38, approaching overbought territory, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains in positive territory—suggesting that upward momentum persists but could be waning as the price nears channel resistance. The Average Directional Index (ADX) at 20.66 indicates that the current trend strength is moderate.

Google Quantum Computing Achieves Breakthrough: Error Rate Reduced by 40 Times, Overcoming Key Resource Bottleneck

Google has validated a technology called "motaic cultivation" on its Willow processor, reducing quantum error rates by about 40 times and achieving a T-state logical fidelity of 99.99%, setting a new record in the field. If this breakthrough can be successfully scaled, it will greatly reduce the hardware requirements for building fault-tolerant quantum systems, which holds significant implications for the commercialization of quantum computing.
