NZD/USD hovers near 0.5900, approaching a one-month peak as hopes rise over peace negotiations
NZD/USD Holds Steady Near Recent Highs
The NZD/USD currency pair is trading within a tight range around the 0.5900 level during Wednesday's Asian session, following a notable rally over the previous two days. Despite the current consolidation, the pair remains close to its highest point in over a month, reached on Tuesday, and appears well-positioned for potential further gains.
The US Dollar (USD) has managed a modest rebound from its lowest point since early March, a level seen on Tuesday, as tensions escalate in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations condemned the US blockade imposed on Monday, calling it a serious breach of Iran’s sovereignty and warning it could threaten the delicate ceasefire. Additionally, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has pledged to respond, maintaining elevated geopolitical risks and lending some support to the USD.
Despite these tensions, market participants remain optimistic that diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran may continue, with a strong likelihood of renewed peace negotiations. US Vice President JD Vance has expressed cautious optimism, indicating that talks are ongoing and that Washington is seeking a comprehensive agreement to enhance Iran’s integration into the global economy. This diplomatic outlook, combined with decreasing expectations for another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, is limiting the USD’s recovery and providing a boost to NZD/USD bulls.
On the economic front, Tuesday’s data revealed that the US Producer Price Index (PPI) for March increased less than anticipated. This has helped ease worries about inflation stemming from higher energy prices due to conflict, and has softened expectations for aggressive monetary tightening. The resulting drop in US Treasury yields and the prevailing risk-on sentiment are weighing on the safe-haven USD, further supporting a positive outlook for the NZD/USD pair.

Tech Stocks Plunge, Safe-Haven U.S. Treasury Trades Return? 10-Year U.S. Treasury Yield Drops to Three-Week Low
If AI capital expenditure slows down, a sudden halt in computing power construction will severely impact the supply chain while lowering market expectations for demand in electricity, commodities, and high-end hardware. This not only leads to a correction of overvalued assets, but also undermines growth expectations and inflation premiums, ultimately benefiting bonds. This logic is highly similar to the macroeconomic landscape during the bursting of the internet bubble in 2000, when the Nasdaq collapsed and the yield on 10-year US Treasury bonds dropped from a high of 6.5% to the 4% range.
