The daily turnover of State Street Bank's SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) has exceeded $60 billion 29 times this year, a level considered a "freak out" indicator. The S&P 500 index has fallen about 5.2% from its historical high, and the market is in a tense state. Some investors are showing signs of fatigue, and hedge funds are also pulling out of global stock markets. According to Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) strategist Athanasios Psarofagis, this level is seen as a "panic indicator." In comparison, there were only 28 occurrences in the entire year of 2025.
