Foreign Holdings of U.S. Treasuries Rise to $9.3 Trillion, Hitting Second-Highest Level on Record
BlockBeats News, March 26th, according to KobeissiLetter data, in January, the amount of U.S. Treasury bonds held by various countries surged by $34.8 billion, reaching $9.3 trillion, a record high.
As the largest foreign holder, Japan purchased $39.8 billion worth of U.S. Treasury bonds, bringing the total purchase to $1.2 trillion, the highest level since July 2022.
The UK is the world's second-largest holder of U.S. debt, with its holdings increasing by $29.3 billion to reach $895.3 billion, a record third high.
The UK is the world's third-largest holder of U.S. debt, with its holdings increasing by $10.9 billion to reach $694.4 billion, the highest level since September last year.
Meanwhile, EU countries collectively increased their holdings by $8 billion, reaching $21 trillion.
