Economists anticipate that the RBNZ Governor will probably resist significant increases in wholesale interest rates
RBNZ Governor Expected to Address Interest Rate Surge
Many economists believe Reserve Bank Governor Anna Breman may challenge the recent surge in wholesale interest rates, which currently reflect market expectations of up to three increases to the Official Cash Rate within the year. Breman is scheduled to deliver a speech on Tuesday, where she will outline the central bank’s perspective regarding the ongoing Middle East crisis—a topic that has caused significant disruption in global financial markets.
In her latest episode of the "This Week in NZ Economics" podcast, ANZ’s chief economist Sharon Zollner noted that, as of Monday morning, markets were factoring in a 77 basis point rise. The financial community is closely watching for Breman’s insights, given the recent volatility.
