Global Tensions Impact Tennessee Farming
Although Todd Littleton farms in Tennessee, far from the Strait of Hormuz, he is already feeling the effects of disruptions in this vital shipping route as conflict escalates near Iran. The timing is particularly challenging, coinciding with the start of planting season. Littleton manages 4,000 acres dedicated to corn, wheat, and soybeans. Unexpectedly, he now faces an extra $50 per acre for nitrogen fertilizer, which is essential for his corn. Additionally, diesel prices have climbed by 50 cents per gallon, and the natural gas required to heat his poultry barns in Gibson County has also become more costly.
