Ethereum Foundation’s 3,400 ETH Morpho Move Signals Strategy Shift

The Ethereum Foundation executed a new treasury strategy move by deploying 3,400 ETH, valued at approximately $7.6 million, into the decentralized finance protocol Morpho Vaults. This latest action expands the foundation’s increasingly on-chain approach to treasury management, and brings new attention to the evolving use of DeFi within major crypto institutions. The foundation, responsible for supporting the development and advancement of Ethereum’s ecosystem, has been transitioning away from routine ETH sales toward strategies that leverage decentralized protocols to generate yield and support operations.

Treasury Deployments Expand in 2025 and 2026

This deployment follows an initial move made in October 2025, when the Ethereum Foundation allocated 2,400 ETH and $6 million in stablecoins into Morpho’s yield vaults. That earlier allocation was explained by the foundation’s support for Morpho’s adherence to open-source software ideals, and referenced the launch of Morpho Vault V2 and Morpho Blue V1 under widely recognized open-source licenses. In early 2025, the foundation announced a significant overhaul, outlining a plan to direct up to 50,000 ETH across prominent DeFi platforms such as Compound and Spark. This pivot reflected a broader move away from liquidating large ETH positions for fiat, and toward using on-chain finance tools to fund growth and sustain operations.

Data from Arkham Intelligence shows the Ethereum Foundation’s asset base now exceeds $820 million, with approximately $735 million of that value held in ETH. The majority of these assets are increasingly managed through decentralized protocols rather than being sold off directly for cash.

Morpho Protocol’s Growing Institutional Interest

Founded to improve on-chain lending and yield strategies, Morpho has rapidly expanded its user base and influence within DeFi during 2025. By the end of the year, user numbers surged from 67,000 to more than 1.4 million, while overall protocol deposits climbed from $5 billion to $13 billion. Active loans on Morpho reached $4.5 billion by the close of 2025.

Morpho’s launch of Vaults V2 in November 2025 introduced an expanded curator model, allowing asset managers to build highly customized on-chain lending products. The foundation allocated 1,000 ETH into this new vault structure, highlighting confidence in programmable liquidity tools that cater to both innovative DeFi participants and institutions seeking compliance-focused solutions. Real-world asset deposits on the platform rose sharply as well, growing to $400 million by the third quarter of 2025.

By early March 2026, Morpho reported about $5.8 billion in total value locked across its platform. The protocol’s broader adoption and evolving architecture have attracted attention from other organizations looking to incorporate decentralized strategies for managing large treasuries.

The Ethereum Foundation recently confirmed that 1,000 out of the total 3,400 ETH now reside in Vaults V2, reinforcing the organization’s ongoing transition toward on-chain financial operations. With ETH priced near $2,239 on the day of the announcement, this shift both showcases and tests the increasing institutional embrace of DeFi infrastructure in the sector.

The Shopify Stock Rally Isn't Done: Chart of the Week -- Barrons.com

By Doug Busch Shopify is no longer a pandemic-era growth story that simply failed to slow down. It is compounding at a pace few software platforms its size still manage. In the second quarter of 2026, sales on its platform rose 32%. That was the fifth straight quarter of growth exceeding 30%. Merchants are also using more of Shopify's own tools, from payments to Shop Pay, and new channels like AI shopping agents are starting to increase demand. The simple bull case is that the stock already commands a huge share of independent online commerce, and that position should become more valuable as more buying moves through its checkout. A rule of market mechanics is that the vast majority of an individual security's gain is driven by its underlying sector. Within technology, software has staged a robust recovery, joining semiconductors to power the broader sector higher. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF has maintained an upward trajectory since its mid-April lows, though the advance from $74 to $112 has been choppy as bulls repeatedly stepped in to defend when necessary. Breadth across large-cap software has expanded significantly, with 24 constituents surging over 20% over the past three months. During that same three-month window, Shopify generated outstanding relative strength, advancing 36%, more than doubling the IGV's 17% gain over the same period. Expect the stock's outperformance to persist as software momentum broadens. Let's examine the daily and monthly charts to outline the technical drivers behind this thesis. Looking at the daily chart, the ratio chart against the IGV shows persistent outperformance extending back to mid-May. The stock is riding an eight-session winning streak, during which price action cleared a double-bottom-with-handle pivot at $151.39. Within this broader base, the stock recorded a bullish golden cross in late August and successfully filled its Sept. 10 price gap, tracing back to its Aug. 4 session, the day before a powerful earnings reaction sent the stock surging 17% hi
