⑴ On Wednesday, the Asian high-sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) market experienced significant changes. Although the forward structure still maintained strong spot premiums (backwardation), the spot premium has noticeably weakened. ⑵ Data shows that the spot premium for 380-cst HSFO against cargo quotations has dropped to $50 per ton, a sharp narrowing compared to the market value of about $70 per ton the previous day. According to market sources, with spot demand slowing, downstream marine fuel premiums have also fallen sharply, while prompt inventories remain ample. ⑶ In contrast, very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) remains robust. Industry insiders pointed out that reduced crude oil and gasoil supplies have tightened blending components, providing support for VLSFO prices. ⑷ In terms of price spreads, the Singapore April 380-cst HSFO crack spread against Brent crude oil has remained steady at about $6.25 per barrel, while the VLSFO crack spread has surpassed $24.60 per barrel. Regarding inventories, during the week ending March 16, Fujairah heavy fuel oil inventories fell by 16.2% to 5.71 million barrels.
