Iran adjusts crude oil export layout, Jask inventory hits record high

⑴ According to the latest report from maritime intelligence company Kpler, despite the US bombing of military facilities at Iran's main oil terminal on Khark Island last week, oil tanker loading activities on the island remain stable. However, Iran is now deploying more crude oil intended for export to the Jask terminal outside the Persian Gulf. ⑵ Kpler pointed out that while Khark Island remains the focal point, Jask is becoming a key secondary dynamic. Ships arriving at Khark Island must pass through the almost blockaded Strait of Hormuz, whereas the Jask terminal is located in the Gulf of Oman, making access much more convenient. ⑶ Data shows that the traceable onshore inventory at the Jask terminal has climbed to a record high of approximately 5.42 million barrels, surpassing the previous peak of 5.03 million barrels set after last year's conflict with Israel. In contrast, inventory at Khark Island remains stable at around 18 million barrels. ⑷ Kpler's analysis indicates that the increase in inventory at the Jask terminal suggests Iran is once again deploying crude oil outside the Persian Gulf as an emergency buffer arrangement. This reinforces the previously observed pattern during periods of disruption, where Iran proactively adjusts its export layout to ensure transportation and export capacity when key waterways face blockade risks.
