Eurozone jobless rate stands at 6.1%
Euro Area and EU Unemployment Rates Continue to Decline
According to data released by Eurostat, the statistical authority of the European Union, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area dropped to 6.1% in January 2026. This marks a decrease from 6.2% in December 2025 and 6.3% in January of the previous year. Across the entire EU, the unemployment rate fell to 5.8% in January 2026, improving from 5.9% in December 2025 and 6.0% in January 2025.
Eurostat estimates that there were 12.928 million unemployed individuals in the EU during January 2026, with 10.770 million residing within the euro area.
- From December 2025 to January 2026, the number of unemployed people decreased by 185,000 in the EU and by 184,000 in the euro area.
