Williams: The Dual Nature of a Coin
A Personal Journey with Credit Unions
It’s a pleasure to join you today. Growing up, my parents worked for the state of California and were devoted members of credit unions. They instilled in me the importance of saving money from a young age, and I’ve continued that tradition as a lifelong credit union member myself. My very first car loan actually came from a credit union. I still remember my mother reminding me that the real goal was to save for the future, not to take out loans for flashy purchases like a sports car. Of course, in my early twenties, I had different ideas about priorities.
Today, as the president of the New York Fed, I lead an institution with a range of critical duties, including the execution of monetary policy. In this role, I look forward to sharing more about our work and responsibilities.
