U.S. Treasury Denies Currency Market Intervention Amid Yen Speculation

On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed rumors that the United States is actively participating in the currency market, despite recent attention on the Japanese yen and the American dollar reaching its lowest point in years. In an interview with CNBC’s Sara Eisen, Bessent firmly stated, “Absolutely not,” when asked whether the U.S. was taking steps to influence the currency market or support the yen.

The U.S. dollar index, which measures the dollar’s value against a selection of major foreign currencies, dropped by 1.3% on Tuesday—its steepest single-day decline since April. During the same trading session, the index also reached its lowest level since 2022 before making a slight recovery.
