Vitalik: Open-source applications or wallets can offer some additional user experience benefits
Foresight News reported that Vitalik Buterin posted that this morning he needed to check the signers of his multisig address. Without the Safe app installed on his phone, he found that he could directly obtain the required information by searching for his address on Etherscan and using the "Read Contract" function. Vitalik pointed out that open-source applications or wallets provide additional user experience advantages, which can often help in unexpected situations and surpass the functions of traditional websites.
He further mentioned that, for privacy reasons, this workflow may eventually be limited. One way to achieve an equivalent and privacy-focused workflow is for users to save a "view key," which is an extended version of the user's address containing additional privacy information. Block explorers could support this method by placing the privacy information in the hash tag part of the URL, keeping it on the client side. However, the downside of this approach is that it encourages users to paste any type of secret information into URLs or web pages, which carries risks; ultimately, it is still necessary to be able to perform more operations directly through the wallet.
