EUR/GBP remains stable as attention turns to UK GDP and central bank policy developments
EUR/GBP Holds Steady as Markets Await UK Economic Data
The EUR/GBP pair is hovering near 0.8660 on Tuesday, showing little movement so far. Traders are adopting a cautious stance ahead of the upcoming UK economic growth report, while also weighing the future policy directions of both the Bank of England (BoE) and the European Central Bank (ECB).
Mixed Economic Signals from the UK
The UK’s economic outlook remains uncertain. The BoE is generally expected to gradually loosen monetary policy, as employment risks persist and inflation continues to exceed the 2% benchmark. Recent employment data points to weak hiring demand, yet wage increases remain robust, presenting a challenge for policymakers as they balance inflation and job market concerns.
Key UK Data Releases on the Horizon
Market participants are now focused on Thursday’s release of the UK’s November Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures. Economists anticipate that the economy likely stagnated, following a 0.1% decline in October. Additionally, updates on Industrial and Manufacturing Production for November are set to offer further clues about the UK’s economic momentum as the year draws to a close.
ECB Policy and Eurozone Outlook
Meanwhile, the European Central Bank is expected to maintain current interest rates in the near term, with inflation now approaching its target. As a result, monetary policy is not expected to drive significant moves in the euro, which instead remains sensitive to broader market sentiment and external developments.
