In September, South Korea reported 25 cases of "Qilin" ransomware attacks, suspected North Korean hackers stole over 2TB of data.
Foresight News reported, citing The Hacker News, that there were 25 ransomware cases in South Korea in September 2025. This operation combined the capabilities of the large ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) organization Qilin and may involve North Korean state-affiliated actors (Moonstone Sleet), using intrusions into managed service providers (MSPs) as the initial access vector. "All 25 cases were carried out by the Qilin ransomware group, with 24 victims coming from the financial sector. The attackers named this campaign 'Korean Leaks'.
The Korean Leaks incident was released in three waves, resulting in more than 1 million files and 2TB of data being stolen from 28 victims. Security company Bitdefender stated that victim posts related to four other entities have been removed from the data leak site (DLS), indicating that these posts may have been deleted after ransom negotiations concluded or due to some special internal policy.
