Quick Take Fidelity’s custody arm, National Financial Services, now owns 12.9% of Metaplanet after acquiring 84.4 million shares worth about $820 million, making it the Tokyo firm’s largest shareholder. The stake may strengthen Metaplanet’s push to mirror Strategy, as it pursues a goal of holding 1% of bitcoin’s supply.

Metaplanet (MTPLF), a Tokyo‑listed investment company pursuing an aggressive bitcoin‑treasury strategy, disclosed that National Financial Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fidelity Investments, has become its largest shareholder with a 12.9 % stake.

A filing dated June 30 shows NFS holding 84.4 million Metaplanet shares, worth approximately 130 billion yen, or about $820 million. The brokerage arm usually acts as custodian for retail and institutional clients who trade through Fidelity’s platforms, suggesting fresh overseas demand for the stock as a proxy for bitcoin exposure.

“Our shareholder base continues to evolve as global access expands,” Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich wrote on X. The official disclosure noted that independent verification with the Fidelity subsidiary is pending. Metaplanet shares closed down over 7% during Asia hours, Yahoo Finance data shows.

Metaplanet, often dubbed “Asia’s MicroStrategy,” has raised more than $1 billion this year through a series of stock‑acquisition rights and share issuances aimed at building one of the world’s largest corporate bitcoin reserves. The company recently increased its holding to 16,352 BTC, acquired for roughly $1.64 billion in total, according to The Block’s data dashboard.

Previously, Gerovich’s firm unveiled its “ 555 Million Plan ” to issue up to that many new shares and eventually amass 1% of bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply. The firm has also announced plans to inject $5 billion into its U.S. subsidiary and leverage its growing BTC stack to acquire cash-generating businesses , such as a digital bank.

Apple Pre-sale Tracker: iPhone 18 Pro Series Shows Weak Overseas Demand Signals, Duo Review Positive but Hardware Lags Behind

According to a survey by Jefferies, after the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, delivery wait times in the four major markets—the US, UK, Germany, and Japan—have shortened by 5 to 11 days compared to last year, with no wait time in the US. Given stable production capacity, this is a clear sign of weak demand. Although the China and Hong Kong markets have performed better against the trend, there are still suspicions of speculative stockpiling. The new foldable Duo has been praised for its software experience, but its $2,000 price tag comes with a 254-gram body and dual-camera setup, leaving its hardware lagging significantly behind Android competitors. Jefferies maintains an "underperform" rating, with a target price implying a 21% downside from the current level.
