According to a report by Jinse Finance, citing CCTV News, Canadian Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly has made it clear that Canada will retaliate against U.S. President Trump's move to impose a 50% tariff on copper imports. Joly took a firm stance, stating, "We will resolutely oppose this and will not compromise," though she did not disclose specific details of the countermeasures. Previously, on the evening of the 9th, Trump announced on social media that a 50% tariff would be imposed on copper imported into the United States, with the tariff set to take effect on August 1. According to data from Canada's Ministry of Natural Resources, in 2023, Canadian exports of copper and copper-based products reached 9.3 billion Canadian dollars, with about half of that exported to the United States.
