South Korean 7-Eleven convenience stores participate in CBDC pilot, offering a 10% discount to encourage use

According to Cointelegraph, South Korea's 7-Eleven convenience stores will participate in the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) payment test from April 1st to June 30th. During this period, payments made with CBDC can enjoy a 10% discount on all categories of products. This nationwide pilot program is led by the Korean central bank and financial regulatory authorities, with a limit of 100,000 participants. It covers multiple banks and retail channels where users can convert their bank deposits into equivalent CBDC for consumption. The project aims to promote the construction of future currency system prototypes.
