Voting machines malfunction in some precincts in central Iowa, US

A spokesman for the U.S. Secretary of State's office in Iowa said on the 5th that voting machines were malfunctioning in some precincts in the central part of the state in Storey County, and that the auditor was working with the vendor and the Secretary of State's office to resolve the problem. The spokesman said the technical problems with the voting machines would not affect voting, but could affect the speed with which the county reports results. The Storrie County auditor said the machines were unable to read ‘certain ballot styles’ at about 12 of the county's 45 polling places. The machines have been tested, and the cause of the technical glitch is unclear. Local officials say election workers must now manually count ballots at those locations.
