web3: Pi Network completes its first distributed computing test

Pi Network revealed that its device node network has completed its first operable distributed computing test. Although the scale of this test was small, it marks the beginning of transitioning the project's long-planned computational network vision from concept to actual validation.

5 nodes complete end-to-end test

According to the company, the test involved participation from five volunteer node operators. The system automatically assigned computational tasks to the devices, and the nodes returned the results after processing, with the whole process requiring no manual step-by-step intervention. The company stated that the task distribution, execution, and result reporting processes are now fully functional.

The focus of this test was not to prove that the network already has large-scale commercial capabilities, but first to verify whether the basic process is feasible. For Pi Network, this means its node network is beginning to handle external computational tasks in addition to supporting the existing blockchain operations.

Node 0.6.2 synchronously updates developer features

Pi Network also announced that version 0.6.2 of Node has adjusted the app testing and release process. Developers can now privately test unpublished applications before deciding whether to launch them publicly.

In addition, the platform has fixed an application status display issue. Previously, the interface could display inaccurate status information; with this update, developers can more clearly track the current progress of their applications. The platform has also added mcp-atlassian and OpenClaw to its curated app list.

420,000 nodes still await larger-scale verification

The company stated that Pi Network is currently running more than 420,000 nodes worldwide. Previously, most of these nodes primarily supported the project's own blockchain operations.

If this idle computing power can be scheduled to process external tasks in the future, Pi Network's role would expand beyond on-chain infrastructure to a decentralized computing network. This path is similar to some distributed computing projects attempting to replace centralized cloud services.

However, the company has also described this result as proof of concept, rather than proof of large-scale capability. The current test only covered five nodes, and whether it can operate stably across hundreds of thousands of nodes in the future will depend on subsequent engineering expansion and network reliability performance.

Additional information: Node numbers, test results, and future plans mentioned in this article are all disclosed by Pi Network.
