The German Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that it is sufficient for natural gas storage levels to be between 60% and 70% at the start of winter. This means that Germany, Europe's largest energy consumer, has a limited buffer capacity to cope with supply disruptions. In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry said, "At the beginning of winter, a storage level between 60% and 70%, combined with additional import capacity, is generally sufficient to meet average winter demand." The statement also added that if supply security is threatened, the government "is able and will take responsive measures."
