Walmart (WMT.US) fell 5% in pre-market trading as its comparable sales for the second quarter missed expectations.

Walmart’s U.S. sales in the second quarter reached $125.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%. Excluding highly volatile fuel sales, comparable sales grew by 2.6%, with transaction volume up 1.5% and average ticket size up 1.1%. Walmart noted that its sales reflected strong e-commerce momentum and broad market share gains, although some of this was offset by lower drug prices.
