Nvidia faces a new challenger? Cerebras (CBRS.US) launches the new CS-4 computer, claiming its AI generation speeds surpass Nvidia by several times.
Cerebras Systems Inc. has launched a new computer named CS-4, which will be more widely available later in the third quarter.
According to Jinse Finance APP, Cerebras Systems (CBRS.US) has launched a brand-new high-speed computer equipped with its proprietary chips, claiming that this device gives it a greater advantage compared to Nvidia's products.
The company announced at an event in San Francisco on Tuesday that its machine, named CS-4, is currently being sample-tested by a limited number of clients and will be released to a broader market later in the third quarter. The speed of this computer will be several times faster than its previous generation, and Cerebras had already asserted that its previous generation responded faster than systems powered by Nvidia's dominant processors.
This product upgrade is a key move for the company in challenging Nvidia in the AI data center hardware market. Cerebras, which went public earlier this year, is still only a fraction of the size of its competitors. However, its target is to double (triple) its revenue next year.
Since its listing in May this year, the company's share price has increased by 19%.
Cerebras has two main core businesses: selling computers equipped with its chips and providing data center computing power services based on its technology. Both business divisions aim to capitalize on the explosive spending in the field of AI infrastructure.
At the event, CEO Andrew Feldman and other executives demonstrated the new hardware, expressing that it delivers AI-generated results several times faster than Nvidia-based alternatives.
Cerebras is promoting “extreme speed in generating results” as its core differentiating advantage. Cerebras stated that by storing all numerical data that support AI models directly on its ultra-large chip—eliminating the need to access memory chips through connecting wires—the entire processing becomes much faster.
The new computer is designed to accommodate next-generation chips coming next year, and it features an improved cooling system. This allows it to house three of Cerebras’s current processors and operate at higher speeds.
Feldman said at the event that the company has learned from previous versions, introducing a modular design that can be easily upgraded or configured to suit a wider range of peripheral systems.
He added that the brand-new computer design will help Cerebras keep pace with surging market demand. On one hand, it does not require the currently scarce memory chips; on the other, it is built on more readily available manufacturing technology. He stated that this will enable the company, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, to deploy these systems more rapidly.
