US July manufacturing output rises 0.2% month-on-month, in line with expectations

⑴ In July, US manufacturing output increased by 0.2% month-on-month, in line with market expectations. Durable goods output rose by 0.7%, with most sub-sectors recording increases of over 1%. Only the indices for nonmetallic mineral products and motor vehicles and parts fell by 0.2% and 2.1%, respectively. ⑵ Nondurable goods output fell by 0.4%, as gains in textile and petroleum and coal products were offset by declines in all other categories. Manufacturing capacity utilization edged up to 76%, 2.2 percentage points below the long-term average from 1972 to 2025.
