Pi Network will adjust the charging method for Pi App Studio from August 24, 2026. The new plan will no longer follow a unified low fee rate; the costs of app creation and editing will be more aligned with the actual AI service consumption, and subsidies will be more inclined toward applications with real users.

Previously, developers needed to pay 0.25 PI to create an app, with an additional 0.25 PI for subsequent edits, with most AI service costs borne by Pi Network. After the implementation of the new mechanism, fees will vary depending on app complexity, and the platform noted there will be no markup beyond actual costs.

Subsidies now follow real usage

The core of this adjustment is that subsidies will no longer be evenly distributed to all developers. Pi Network plans to determine whether to continue offering subsidized rates based on whether an app attracts independent users beyond the developer themselves.

The platform stated that relevant qualifications will be reviewed regularly. Even if developers do not receive a subsidy initially, they will still have a chance to regain it if their app usage increases. This means developers need to place greater emphasis on product usability, user feedback, and genuine demand.

Developers can optimize their apps before August 24

Before the new rules come into effect, existing developers still have time to improve app performance to retain or obtain subsidy eligibility. The article mentions directions for preparation, including:

  • Enhancing app features and user experience
  • Attracting more real users to the app
  • Collecting feedback and fixing existing issues

Pi Network also stated that widespread early subsidies helped encourage participation and allowed the platform to understand how App Studio was being used. However, if the platform continues to bear costs for apps lacking users over the long term, resource allocation efficiency will decline.

Short-term impact on PI price remains unclear

This fee adjustment is seen as a step for Pi Network to overhaul its app ecosystem, aiming to focus resources on products with a stronger user base. If app quality and activity improve as a result, the platform's overall utility may also increase.

However, for the short-term price of the PI token, no clear boost is apparent at this stage. The original article notes that PI’s recent price is about $0.086, down about 5% in the past week. The market’s focus now is whether this adjustment can deliver sustained user growth.
