Sui (SUI) rose 1.4% in the past 24 hours, yet remains among the weakest performers in the top 20 cryptocurrencies this week after falling nearly 5%. The recent dip caps a difficult year for Sui, with the token losing about 52% of its value since the beginning of 2026.
Trading surge as Sui slides
Despite a week of losses, SUI’s trading volume surged alongside selling pressure. Over the past 24 hours, volume jumped 140% to reach $230 million, representing approximately 9% of Sui’s circulating market cap. This spike in activity suggests investors may be repositioning as market momentum shifts.
The broader altcoin sector has also faced generally unfavorable conditions, but Sui’s specific challenges include declining on-chain activity and limited institutional participation.
Struggles in adoption and application growth
Sui is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain, designed to process large transaction volumes and theoretically surpass the throughput of rivals like Ethereum and Solana. However, this technical capacity has not translated into sustained application development or user activity.
The network still contends with uncertainty regarding its ability to attract developers who can deliver decentralized applications with compelling use cases. Some project teams have reportedly delayed or avoided building on Sui, citing concerns around weak application revenues and the risk of unsustainable business models.
Institutional adoption remains muted. While Sui’s technical features have drawn some attention, major financial institutions have yet to embrace the protocol at scale.
On-chain data illustrates the impact. Monthly decentralized exchange (DEX) volume on Sui has collapsed from a peak of $22 billion in October 2025 to $886 million in July. Early August numbers indicate this could drop to $670 million by month’s end, a further 24% slide.
Month DEX Volume
| Oct 2025 | $22 billion |
| July 2026 | $886 million |
| Aug 2026 (projected) | $670 million |
Shrinking DEX activity has reduced protocol fee generation and suppressed demand for the SUI token. Fee revenue from Sui-based applications recently dipped below $700,000 for the first time since July 2024, further highlighting ecosystem weaknesses.
Low fee generation poses challenges for projects seeking to cover operational expenses or sustain further development without extra funding. Some improvement emerged in August, with network fees surpassing $1 million in the month’s first half. This partial rebound followed a recent integration with Hadron, Tether’s tokenization platform, allowing tokenized assets supported by Hadron to be traded on Sui.
Mini dictionary: Hadron is Tether’s tokenization platform, designed to facilitate the issuance and transfer of tokenized real-world assets on different blockchains.
Technical signals and price outlook
SUI’s daily chart shows increasing downward pressure after the price slipped below the critical $0.65 support level. The token has traded in a descending channel marked by consistently lower highs and lows.
The breakdown coincided with the surge in trading activity and reinforced a bearish pattern. If sellers maintain control beneath $0.65, SUI could test the next major support at $0.55, which would be a further 15% decrease from former support levels.
Sustained weakness in application activity and market sentiment leaves SUI at risk of additional declines if price support fails to hold.
Technical indicators have also worsened. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) recently fell below 40, signaling intensified selling momentum. If the RSI approaches lower levels, SUI could become oversold, but a meaningful reversal would likely require renewed demand or a change in broader market direction.
To reverse the bearish outlook, SUI would need to reclaim the $0.65 support and break out of its descending channel. Until that happens, weak market conditions and declining ecosystem engagement suggest continued vulnerability for the token.
